3 steps to accessibility
Why is accessibility important?
Barriers on the internet prevent people with disabilities from accessing information and services. In Germany alone, there are around 8 million people with a recognized severe disability. Accessible web content makes it possible for everyone to use the Internet without hindrance. In addition, accessible web content is generally easier to use, which benefits all users. Companies can also demonstrate their social commitment with accessible web content.
What is the legal situation regarding accessibility?
From June 28, 2025, websites and apps will be subject to a legal obligation to be accessible, regulated by the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG). The BFSG implements the EU directive of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) so that uniform rules on accessibility apply throughout Europe. These are largely based on the international guidelines for accessible web content (WCAG). If a website does not meet the legal requirements, it can be shut down and large fines can be imposed.
Can you implement accessibility yourself?
In principle, free test tools (e.g. WAVE) can provide an initial overview of the extent to which your website complies with the legislation. However, these tools are usually not sufficient for a well-founded analysis and appropriate technical implementation.
How expensive is the implementation of an accessible website?
There is no general answer to this question. It primarily depends on how far-reaching the problems are. Simply ask us for a free analysis and an individual offer to rectify the problems.
Could your website use even more improvements?
Our extensive health check for websites will be available soon. Agencies and consultants can expand their business with a white-labeled version.
